Youth Excelling and SucceedingLeadership
Training
Family Support Services provides a Youth Leadership Training program/
Youth Advisory Committee (Y.A.C.).
Through development and implementation of their own community projects,
youth are taught such skills as teamwork, goal setting, decision making,
commitment, and responsibility. Y.A.C. activities are designed to
promote resiliency, leadership, community involvement, volunteerism, and
broaden the positive peer support group. Another component of the
program is the Youth Advisory Committee that represents youth from the
79107 community. At least two youth from Y.A.C. represent 79107 youth by
providing input to the YES 79107 Steering Committee on youth-related
issues. In addition, Y.A.C. youth:
- Establish and maintain dialogue between youth and the Steering Committee
- Identify problem areas in the community associated with youth
populations
- Assist the Steering Committee in determining ways to improve or
resolve conditions, which might lead to juvenile crime.
